Construct Your Own Facebook
I am not going to even try to duplicate the success of Facebook. We will leave that to someone else who wants to compete with the largest social network to date. However, what I am suggesting is that we take some of the concepts which have made Facebook so popular and learn how to monetize them for ourselves. So how do we do that?
Has anyone ever heard of Michael Dell? Way back in 1999 Dell did a talk that has since been called, ‘The 3 C’s.” During this talk he spoke on what was going to be the most important element of building a successful business in the information age. How Does Facebook Make Money?
When I ask this question everywhere I go the common responses are either, 1) I dunno, or 2) Advertising. Though option 2 seems the most logical, as that is certainly an avenue through which they generate an income today, the secret behind their success, and the truth behind the question, is they built a community. With over an estimated 750 million users, if FB were a country, it would be the 3rd largest in the World.
If you were going to spend money on advertising, would it make sense to buy advertising on a website that has only 10 users, or 750,000,000? Right! By advertising to an audience of 750 million people, versus only 10, you have a much higher probability of seeing a return on your investment. Thus, proving the point, that if Facebook hadn’t built a community first, the likelihood of them making money via advertising wouldn’t exist. So how does Facebook make money? The correct answer, by building a community, then monetizing their community via multiple channels of advertising!
Leverage Community
What if there were a way that you too could leverage a community and thus create a long term residual income? Is it possible for the average person without the advanced technical skills that are required to construct such a powerful social media/community as Facebook? Of course it is, and I personally believe it is the business model of the Information Age. You see a community is nothing more than a group of people who are plugged into an exisiting system through which products and services flow. Imagine being involved in an existing community, where all the profits are shared amongst the community members who help to grow the community based on performance. The larger your contribution, the larger your compensation! Free Enterprise at it’s best!
Another way of saying it is, what if you helped build Facebook and were compensated based on how many people you were directly, and indirectly, responsible for joining their community? We heard recently that Facebook was valued around an estimated 100 BILLION dollars (Give or take, after all it is just an estimate). Imagine if you were paid, even 0.1% of those profits, because you helped build the community. Holy Smokes! (On a side note, we also heard that Microsoft purchased 1% of Facebook for $1 Billion Dollars. What does that tell you about their community?)
Community Is The Key
Whether you have pre-conceived notions about the networking /community building industry, or you heard from someone that the business model doesn’t work, I am hear to scrub you of those false beliefs. Networking is a $100 billion dollar industry and growing. Over the years the business model has improved and continues to get better all the time. With advances in technology opening the door for business to go overseas, it only makes sense that we learn to embrace the changing times. There is a quote I heard some time ago, and I have no idea who to credit it to, but it says, “Take advantage of changing times before changing times take advantage of you.” The Industrial Age is gone, and it is not coming back!

Not to mention, you will have a ton of fun, make incredible friends, and develop relationships with people that will last for the rest of your life. Yes, it really is worth it!
